Spina Bifida

Spina bifida is a congenital defect of the vertebral column in which laminate fail to unite at the midline.

In serious cases, protrusion of the membranes (meninges) around the spinal cord or the spinal cord itself produces perilous problems, such as partial or complete paralysis, partial or complete paralysis, partial or complete loss of urinary bladder control, and the absence of reflexes.

Spina bifida may be diagnosed prenatally by a test of the mother's blood, sonography, or amniocentesis (Withdrawal of amniotic fluid for analysis).
