What is Ceiling Effect

A graded dose-response curve shows that as the drug dose increases, the drug effect increases. Drug effects increase up to a ceiling. This ceiling effect may be reached when all drug receptors are saturated or when the maximum possible effect that could be produced is reached.

For example, the ceiling effect for opioid analgesics is reached at the point when no more pain relief is achieved even if additional opioid is administered.
