SYNERGISTIC EFFECTS

Drug–drug interactions and drug–food interactions may produce synergistic effects. Synergistic effects result when two drugs administered together produce effects that are greater than would be produced if either drug were administered alone or would be seen with additive effects. Bleeding is a potential side effect of warfarin and aspirin. When warfarin and aspirin are administered together, excessive bleeding may occur.

Synergistic effects can be described using the equation -

                                        1 + 1 = 3
